A Paediatrician's View

Dr Samual Gidding is a Paediatrician from Delaware, USA

"I think the importance of recognizing high cholesterol very early in life, at age 2 to 10 years, is to emphasize diet," Dr Samuel Gidding (Nemours Alfred du Pont Hospital for Children, Wilmington, Delaware, USA), said.

"It also gives you an opportunity to counsel families about the natural history of the disease and provides a good opportunity for primary prevention making sure the kid plays sports, that if parents are smoking to get them to quit, and monitoring the kid's other risk factors, so that the genetic risk factor for high cholesterol is the only risk factor that you're dealing with in these patients."
